Kashozan Mirokuji Temple
This temple has a history of 848 years. Japan’s largest tengu mask with a 6.5-meter face and 2.8-meter nose is housed here.
The temple has a custom where first-time visitors borrow a tengu mask from the Chuho-do hall to take with them, then return with that same mask on the next year, buy a new mask to donate to the temple from a store at the entrance, and finally borrow another mask.
Every 10 years, an unveiling is held, giving visitors a chance to worship the deity enshrined in the small shrine of the inner temple of the Chuho-do. Next time will be in 2025.
Visitors can also enjoy the fall colors that decorate the surrounding mountains from late October to mid-November.
